Rental Backhoe Loaders

A mainstay at both large and small worksites, backhoe loaders are heavy equipment vehicles consisting of a tractor’s body fitted with a bucket loader or shovel on the front and a small backhoe on the rear.

Its size and versatility allows a backhoe loader to effectively navigate a variety of terrain in almost any condition, from dirt, mud and gravel to moderate snow, dry ground and on concrete.

The machine’s front loader typically is used to scoop up and transport material — dirt, sand, gravel, scrap, debris — and load it onto trucks, bins or other containers. The rear backhoe is used for more precise jobs, such as digging up hard or tightly compacted soil in a confined area.

A backhoe loader’s front scoop can be replaced with a blade, like on a bulldozer, which can be used to push or smooth material, while the rear backhoe scoop is interchangeable with a variety of attachments — augers, breakers, grapples, hammers or stump grinders, among others.

For stability, backhoe loaders typically include two stabilizer legs, one positioned on each side behind the rear wheels. The legs balance the backhoe while it operates, preventing it from toppling over or slipping into a ditch or ground depression.

Because of their relatively compact size and maneuverability, backhoes are ideal for a variety of work site applications, large and small.
