Rental Scissor Lifts
When a ladder is either too short or too unstable to elevate employees and allow them to perform necessary tasks, scissor lifts often provide the perfect solution.
A scissor lift is a platform that can be raised or lowered to allow workers to reach elevated spots, such as working on the ceiling of a high warehouse or the face of a building.
Thanks to a system of linked, folding supports in a criss-cross ‘X’ pattern, known as a pantograph, scissor lifts ensure safety and stability for any job performed high above the around. The lift’s upward motion is achieved by the application of pressure to the outside of the lowest set of supports, elongating the crossing pattern, and raising the work platform. The platform also may have an extension, or “bridge,” that enables closer access to the work area. This is sometimes necessary, given a scissor lift’s vertical-only capability.
The scissor action that raises and lowers the work platform can be controlled by hydraulic or pneumatic systems, or even a mechanical setup using a rack-and-pinion system. The work platform usually can be lowered with the simple release of hydraulic or pneumatic pressure, making those control systems preferable to the mechanical versions.
Because of the lift movement, scissor lifts are ideal for underground applications, such as mining, as well as above-ground projects.
